Originally built as the Soviet Navy’s Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier named “Riga,” the partially completed carrier was purchased from Ukraine in 1998. The Liaoning has a displacement of around 58,500 tons and features a ski-jump ramp on its bow, which enables the launch of fixed-wing aircraft.
